Obișnuiam să...
Când vrei să vorbești despre obiceiuri din trecut care nu mai există acum, sau despre situații care erau adevărate în trecut dar nu mai sunt, folosești USED TO și WOULD.
USED TO - Obiceiuri și situații din trecut
USED TO + INFINITIV
Pentru:
- Obiceiuri din trecut: "I used to play football." (Obișnuiam să joc fotbal - acum nu mai joc)
- Situații/stări din trecut: "I used to live in Paris." (Locuiam în Paris - acum nu mai locuiesc)
⚠️ Pronunție:
USED TO se pronunță /ˈjuːst tə/ (ca "yoost to"), NU /ˈjuːzd/ ca verbul "use"!
WOULD - Obiceiuri repetate din trecut
WOULD + INFINITIV
Pentru obiceiuri repetate (acțiuni):
"When I was young, I would visit my grandparents every summer."
Când eram mic, vizitam bunicii în fiecare vară.
❌ NU folosești WOULD pentru stări:
❌ "I would live in Paris." (GREȘIT!)
✅ "I used to live in Paris." (CORECT)
USED TO vs WOULD
| USED TO | WOULD | |
|---|---|---|
| Obiceiuri (acțiuni) | ✅ "I used to smoke." | ✅ "I would smoke after dinner." |
| Stări (be, have, live, etc.) | ✅ "I used to be shy." | ❌ NU se folosește |
| Context necesar | ❌ Nu e necesar | ✅ Trebuie context temporal |
| Frecvență | General | Mai specific, adesea cu "every", "always" |
Forme negative și întrebări
Negativ:
✅ "I didn't use to like coffee."
✅ "I wouldn't eat vegetables."
Notă: "didn't use to" (nu "didn't used to"!)
Întrebări:
✅ "Did you use to play sports?"
✅ "Would you visit them often?"
Notă: "Did you use to" (nu "used"!)
BE USED TO vs USED TO
ATENȚIE - Sunt diferite!
USED TO + infinitiv = obișnuiam să (trecut)
"I used to smoke." (Fumam înainte, acum nu mai fumez)
BE USED TO + -ING = sunt obișnuit cu (prezent)
"I am used to working late." (Sunt obișnuit să lucrez târziu)
GET USED TO + -ING = a te obișnui cu
"I'm getting used to the cold weather." (Mă obișnuiesc cu vremea rece)

How Life Has Changed in Romania
My grandmother often tells me about how different life used to be in Romania. When she was young, people didn't use to have smartphones or computers. Children would play outside all day, and families would gather in the evenings to tell stories. There used to be more community spirit in neighborhoods.
In the 1980s, Romanians used to wait in long queues for basic goods. My grandfather would wake up at 5 AM to get bread. People didn't use to travel abroad easily because it was difficult to get passports. However, families used to be closer, and neighbors would help each other more often.
After 1989, everything changed. People started to have more freedom and opportunities. Today, we can travel anywhere, buy anything online, and communicate instantly. But my grandmother says that people used to be happier with less. She believes we used to appreciate simple things more than we do now.

Dialogue: Remembering Childhood
Maria: Do you remember how we used to spend our summers as kids?
Ion: Of course! We would go to the countryside every July. I used to love those trips.
Maria: Yes! We would wake up early and help with the animals. I didn't use to like it at first, but then it became fun.
Ion: And in the evenings, we would sit around the fire and listen to grandfather's stories. He would tell us about the old days.
Maria: Life used to be so simple. We didn't use to have phones or internet, but we were never bored.
